2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ellwood Christian finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Ellwood Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region four with a 0-4 region record. Ellwood Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.6 points a game. Ellwood Christian struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.5 points a game. Since 2010, Ellwood Christian has gone a combined 18-43. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Trey Pike leaves Ellwood Christian after a single season leading the football team. His only squad finished with a 3-7 record last year. Mike Stokes returns to lead Ellwood Christian in 2016 as the head football coach. He was the coach between 2011-2013 with a 7-25 record. Coach Stokes' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-25 (21.9%). The Ellwood Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region three during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region four over to region three. The Eagles enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, August 19 at Camden Field. Last year the Wilcox Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 5A region four. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to Jackson by a score of 41-0. Ellwood Christian and Wilcox Central have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-2-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
